This created a crossroads that would become the beautiful city of Lake City. This spot was founded by local farmers and underwent multiple name changes before it was recognized as Lake City. The area began as an intersection called McCrea’s Crossroads in 1874. Later, locals began calling it Lyches Lake, before it was known as Lake City in 1883. The city’s name honors a nearby fishing lake.

Lake City once had the most diversified agricultural market in North and South Carolina, producing fresh produce like strawberries, snap peas, cucumbers, squash, lima beans, and more. Revitalization efforts continue as the city transforms, to bring the community back even stronger. The city presses forward, as it continues to be economically fueled by the manufacturing industry.
